8 things to know: Forbes names best banks, credit unions in Maryland - Baltimore Business Journal (2024)

Good morning Baltimore!

The weather is heating up and so are the Orioles after they beat the Yankees 17-5 (not a typo) last night. While the Orioles head to Texas to take on the Astros, the heat will make its way to Baltimore, with temperatures expected to be in the mid-to-upper 90s today, Saturday and Sunday.

Some people will try an unusual method for staying cool: jumping in the Inner Harbor (also not a typo). That's right, this Sunday 150 people along with some local luminaries like Mayor Brandon Scott and Comptroller Brooke Lierman will take the plunge as part of "Harbor Splash," an event put on by the Waterfront Partnership as part of its campaign to make Baltimore's waterfront fishable and swimmable. The event comes after the organization collected data last year that found the harbor is safe to swim in the majority of the time, as long as it hasn't rained recently and washed pollutants into the water.

Best of luck to those brave souls. Now, onto the news.
