We recommend that students start practicing for the SAT at least 2–3 months before their test date. By using Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy, your child will be able to study for the test anytime, anywhere, and focus on the exact skills they need to improve in order to succeed on the SAT.
At a minimum, you should plan to spend an hour a week on your SAT prep, though it's recommended that you carve out 2-3 hours per week. The weeks in which you'll be taking an SAT practice test (there are 4 in this 3 Month Study Plan) will require more time—plan to spend about 6 hours on SAT prep during these weeks.
If you don't want to take the SAT immediately before your AP exams, then March may be the better testing month – but if you need more time to prepare, then May is likely a better testing month. But don't stop there.
The time needed to prepare for the SAT varies, but most students should plan to study for 2 to 6 months. During this time, practice regularly, review your mistakes, and use study materials. Start with a diagnostic test and set a target score based on your college goals.
Sophom*ore year is the time for test prep. Most students take their first SAT/ACT in the fall of junior year. Since these tests require a good deal of prep to do well on, you can spread out your prep over the course of 10th grade and the following summer.
Freshman grade is the perfect time to start prepping for the SAT/ACT, reinforcing concepts you need to know, and taking official practice tests. If you're having trouble getting started, remember that you'll be doing Future You a favor.
Although you may take the SAT any time starting freshman year, most students take it for the first time in the spring of their junior year and possibly retake it in the fall of their senior year.
You can improve your score from 1300 to 1500 by following a proper SAT study plan for 3 months. On average, most of the candidates require 2 to 3 months SAT preparation time. Your SAT study plan must include taking practice tests, reading books, and getting feedback from experts.
